The latest research into the gambling habits of Australians has revealed that sports betting accounts for just 1.6 per cent of total gambling expenditure, despite being the fastest growing segment of the market in recent years.
The findings from Australian research firm IBISWorld show that spend on poker gaming machines known as pokies accounted for 60.2 per cent of total gambling expenditure in 2011-12, amounting to AUD$13.87bn.
