Stockholm-listed betting and gaming operator Betsson has appointed Peter Frey as its new chief product officer (CPO) and chief technology officer (CTO).

Frey is currently CTO of Swedish media giant Bonnier News and will join Betsson in the coming months as CPO/CTO, a newly merged role reflecting the operator’s focus on efficiency and closing the gap between technology and business.

During his time with Bonnier, Frey was instrumental in establishing Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet as the most visited website in Sweden.

Following that he took on the challenge of repeating the same success for Bonnier-owned Expressen, Aftonbladet’s number one competitor.

“Throughout his career, Peter has shown that he can deliver highly user-centric products and is therefore a perfect match for Betsson,” said Jesper Svensson, CEO of Betsson Operations. “With fewer layers in the organisation we know we can be more efficient, as we did with the successful merger of Marketing and Commercial a while back.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about efficient delivery of business driven initiatives. Holding the combined CPO/CTO role, Peter Frey will be able to balance capacity changes and ensure swift delivery of improvements to our customer experience.”

Shares in Betsson AB (STO:BETS-B) were trading down 1.21 per cent at SEK86.45 per share in Stockholm Tuesday morning.
