Powerball to cut starting jackpot as U.S. lottery sales fall

The starting jackpot for the U.S. multi-state lottery game Powerball will be cut by 50 per cent in response to lower consumer activity due to the widening COVID-19 shutdown.

The Powerball jackpot currently stands at $170m and will reset to a guaranteed $20m annuity jackpot once hit, down from the current $40m top prize, while the minimum rollover will fall from $10m per draw to $2m. Tickets will remain priced at $2.
