DraftKing’s expects to launch its online casino and sportsbook in the Canadian province in July
DraftKings plans to be live in Alberta’s regulated online gambling market on its opening day, subject to pending licensure and regulatory approval.
The company said Thursday that it plans to launch its online sportsbook and casino in Alberta on the anticipated universal launch date of July 13.
Alberta will become the second Canadian province to open its online gambling market to private operators, following the lead set by Ontario in April 2022.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to expand DraftKings’ footprint in Canada and bring our online sportsbook and casino experiences to customers in Alberta,” said Greg Karamitis, executive vice president and general manager of Sports at DraftKings.
“With the anticipated launch aligning with the World Cup – hosted right here in North America – it’s a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform.”
The planned launch in Alberta will mark DraftKings’ seventh active online casino jurisdiction in North America, and the company’s 34th for online sports betting.
Shares in DraftKings Inc. (NASDAQ:DKNG) were up 1.61 per cent in pre-market trading in New York Thursday at $24.02 per share.
