The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued a cease-and-desist order to offshore online gambling operator BetUS.
The regulator’s order to BetUS gives the company 14 days to withdraw its services from the Wolverine State or face legal action.
This follows an MGCB investigation which found that the Costa Rica-based operator offered online betting options including sports, esports, horse racing and online casino games to players in the state, without a local licence.
The operator also offered the option to make deposits and withdrawals using a wide range of payment methods, including cryptocurrencies.
“Unlicensed operators like BetUS undermine the integrity of Michigan’s regulated gaming market and expose consumers to potential risks,” said Henry Williams, executive director at the MGCB. “The MGCB is committed to protecting Michigan residents by ensuring that all gambling activities are conducted legally and responsibly.”
The MGCB warned that if BetUS does not comply with the cease-and-desist order within 14 days of receiving the letter, it will work with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office to bring further legal action against the company.
