Casino operator Barrière Group is closing down its Gamrfirst.ch online gaming platform in Switzerland at the end of this month.
The online platform went live in 2021 in partnership with Casino Barrière Montreux and enjoyed several years of growth but has struggled to maintain that growth.
As a result, the site will now be shut down on 30 October.
“After several years of strong growth in the sector, the Swiss online gaming market has experienced a significant slowdown since the beginning of the year,” said Barrière Group. “This economic context is now leading the group to refocus its priorities.”
The closure of the online division will have no impact on Barrière’s land-based operations in Switzerland, with the operator reaffirming its commitment to its three casinos in Montreux, Courrendlin and Fribourg.
The group is taking steps to support the workforce, with approximately 20 per cent of those working in online gaming having joined the Montreux and Fribourg casinos.
