DraftKings has unveiled a new retail sportsbook at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino in Puerto Rico, with an online sportsbook to follow in the coming months.
In partnership with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and hospitality investment firm LionGrove, the DraftKings Sportsbook opened on Friday with a ceremonial first bet by Yankees Legend Jorge Posada.
“Puerto Rico has an incredible sports culture and a deep connection to entertainment,” said DraftKings president of operations Paul Liberman. “We’re thrilled to bring our retail sportsbook to the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino and look forward to providing eligible customers with a fun, seamless, and responsible way to engage with their favorite sports.”
Spanning 15,000 square feet, Foxwoods El San Juan Casino features nearly 300 slot machines and 14 table games, including blackjack, craps, and roulette, and is celebrating its four-year anniversary this month. The new sportsbook includes sports betting kiosks, over-the-counter ticket window and a sports lounge.
Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation chairman Rodney Butler said: “We’re proud to continue building on our legacy of innovation and entertainment at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino. The addition of the DraftKings retail sportsbook marks another exciting milestone as we deliver new experiences to guests and sports fans in Puerto Rico.”
Together with Foxwoods, DraftKings plans to introduce its online sportsbook in the coming months, pending licensure and regulatory approvals.
Puerto Rico joins 28 US states where the company currently operates regulated sports betting, as well as Washington DC and Ontario, Canada.
“We are thrilled to celebrate this exciting moment with DraftKings and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation,” said Andro Nodarse-Leon, founder & CEO of LionGrove. “The opening of the DraftKings retail sportsbook further elevates the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino as a world-class entertainment destination and reinforces our commitment to creating exceptional experiences for guests from Puerto Rico and around the world.”
