South African gaming operator Sun International has appointed Mark Sergeant as chief operating officer of land-based gaming.
Joining Ulrik Bengtsson’s expanding executive team, Sergeant brings over 25 years of leadership experience across the gaming, leisure and hospitality sectors.
His career includes leading two of the UK’s largest casino groups as managing director of Genting Casinos UK and Gala Casinos.
“With a proven track record of managing large-scale, complex operations, Mark brings deep commercial expertise in driving sustainable growth, strengthening profitability and delivering multi-channel gaming experiences at scale,” said Sun International in a statement on LinkedIn. “Beyond operational excellence, Mark is known for his people-first leadership style.
“He has built high-performing teams, developed future leaders and championed Responsible Gaming, ensuring the highest standards of integrity, compliance and customer care.”
Sun International CEO Ulrik Bengtsson commented: “After a thorough search, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Sergeant as chief operating officer: Gaming. As such, Mark is responsible for the land-based gaming revenue across the group’s portfolio.”
Sergeant joins Sun International’s executive management team, which also includes CFO Norman Basthdaw, Sunbet CEO Simon Gregory, Sun Slots CEO Felix Mthembu, and chief technology & products officer Leslie Peters, among others.
Shares in Sun International Ltd (JSE:SUI) were trading 1.31 per cent higher at ZAC 4,179.00 per share in Johannesburg Wednesday.
