The Kentucky Lottery generated record sales of more than $2 billion during the fiscal year ended 30 June 2024, an increase of 14 per cent year-on-year.
The landmark sales figure comes just seven years after the lottery first reached the $1 billion sales mark in 2017.
During FY24, lottery players won more than $1.5 billion in prizes as the lottery celebrated its 35th anniversary, with 21 new millionaires created and 146 players recording wins of $100,000 or more.
Lottery commission and incentive payments to retailers totalled more than $87 million during the year.
As a result of the record sales performance, the lottery transferred more than $404 million to the Commonwealth for lottery-funded scholarships and grants, an increase of more than 6 per cent on FY23.
“What is most special about this accomplishment is that we generated even more money to fund higher education in every part of the state,” said Kentucky Lottery president and CEO Mary Harville. “The scholarships and grants we fund are important because they encourage Kentucky students to stay in Kentucky, to go to school and eventually make their homes right here in the state.”
Since 1999, the Kentucky Lottery has funded more than $5 billion in scholarships and grants, with one in five Kentuckians receiving a college scholarship or grant funded by the lottery.
