Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has fined Alimaniere Sociedad de Responsabilidad €1.05 million for unlicensed online gaming in the Netherlands.
According to the regulator, the Curacao-licensed operator ran the website time2spin.com and a previous investigation in February and April 2023 found that Dutch players could create accounts, make deposits and play games on the site.
A recent investigation found that the original site was no longer accessible to Dutch players due to an IP block, however, the operator had launched a new site, timetospin1.com, to circumvent the original ruling.
The new site allowed previously registered players to log back in, prompting the regulatory action by the KSA.
Based on the seriousness of the offence, the KSA has imposed a fine of €1.05 million on Alimaniere, which cannot be appealed.
“The Netherlands has a legal market to ensure that people who want to gamble can do so safely,” said KSA chair Michel Groothuizen. “With illegal providers, we often see that no account is taken of the prevention of risky gaming behaviour.
“For example, there was a lack of age verification, which allowed minors to play, and inactivity costs were charged when someone did not use their account for a while. We therefore take tough action against these types of parties.”
