The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) is continuing its efforts to combat illegal gambling by issuing cease and desist orders to a further nine unlicensed operators.
The nine operators are accused of offering online betting and gaming to players in Michigan without a local license, in breach of state laws.
“One method these platforms use to evade regulatory scrutiny is by operating under the guise of sweepstakes, which allows them to circumvent traditional gaming laws,” said the MGCB.
“However, many of these sites lack proper consumer protections, oversight, and responsible gambling measures, making them a risky choice for players and underscoring the importance of state-regulated gambling to ensure consumer safety.”
The cease-and-desist letters have been issued to BetAnySports, CoolCat Casino, Diamond Sportsbook International, Solar Game and Busan Trade Office, My Dreams Casino, NonStop Casino, Palace of Chance, Xbet Casino, and WagerWeb.
Henry Williams, executive director of the MGCB, commented: “These unlicensed operators are not only in violation of Michigan’s laws but also pose significant risks to consumers by offering limited and often unreliable withdrawal options.
“Our role is to protect Michigan residents by ensuring that all online gambling activities are carried out legally and responsibly. These operators have 14 days to cease their illegal activities or face further legal action.”
According to a 2022 report from the American Gaming Association (AGA), players in the United States are estimated to wager over $510 billion annually with illegal and unregulated operators.
The MGCB has previously issued cease and desist letters to a number of unlicensed operators, including MyBookie and Ace23.
