The New Jersey Senate has passed a bill that removes language from state law prohibiting wagering on sporting events.

Sponsored by senators Raymond Lesniak, Jim Whelan and Joseph Kyrillos, the bill partially repeals prohibitions, permits, licences and authorisations concerning wagers on professional, collegiate, or amateur sport contests or athletic events in the state.

This is intended to enable New Jersey racetracks and casinos to conduct wagering on sporting events.
