Alabama’s Attorney General has sent cease-and-desist letters to DraftKings and FanDuel, after completing a review of the state’s gambling statutes and declaring paid daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests a form of illegal gambling.

Attorney General Luther Strange has written to the DFS market leaders warning them to stop offering paid contests in the state, setting a deadline of May 1st to do so. Alabama joins 11 other US states in ruling real-money DFS a form of illegal gambling.
