Online gaming and betting supplier SBTech has announced that it has been awarded an online gaming licence by Romania’s gambling regulator, Oficiul Național pentru Jocuri de Noroc (ONJN).

The licence approval will allow the supplier to provide its sportsbook software to operators licensed in the country, including customers such as Netbet.ro.

SBTech CEO Richard Carter commented: “Increasing the number of regulated markets in which we operate is a key part of the SBTech strategy and I am delighted that we are entering the Romanian market, having met the high standards set by the ONJN.

“We look forward to delivering our award-winning Sportsbetting solutions to existing and future operators in the regulated Romanian market.”

Romania's new gambling regulations were passed in March, establishing a clear legislative framework for land-based and online operators, with the first approvals awarded that month.

The ONJN has now issued 122 Class 2 licences to a wide variety of iGaming software suppliers including the likes of NYX Gaming, Playtech, Vermantia and NetEnt. Nineteen operator licences have also been issued including Betfair, 888, Sportingbet, Unibet, Superbet, Favbet, NetBet, and Mozzartbet.
