Northern Ireland starts consultation on new gambling laws

Northern Ireland’s Social Development Minister, Alex Attwood, launched a public consultation Thursday on reforms to the country’s outdated gambling law, with planned reforms including the introduction of a licensing system for online operators and a total ban on fixed-odds betting terminals (FOBTs).

Northern Ireland’s 1985 gambling law predates the internet and has become outdated in the face of significant changes in industry practices, both online and offline.
