The standstill period for Bulgaria’s new Gambling Act has been extended following receipt of Detailed Opinions from the European Commission and Malta and comments from the United Kingdom.
The draft act seeks to regulate the Bulgarian gambling market, both online and offline, but contains numerous provisions that observers believe conflict with EU law. Among the more dubious restrictions is a clause prohibiting disabled people from gambling except on traditional lottery products and charitable gaming.
