The Macau Horse Race Company has agreed to terminate its exclusive right to offer thoroughbred horse racing and betting.
The Macau Horse Race Company holds the monopoly on horse racing in Macau until 2042, having been granted a 24-year extension to its concession in 2018.
In 2023 the company approached the Government of Macao with a request to terminate its concession due to the declining popularity of horse racing and operational difficulties.
