ASA bans Betdaq ad featuring Christ the Redeemer

UK advertising regulator the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned an advert for Ladbrokes’ exchange betting brand Betdaq after it was ruled to be potentially offensive to Christians.

The ad was used to publicise the Betdaq offering during this summer’s FIFA World Cup finals, and featured an image of Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer statue. It had been digitally altered so that its robes were purple, with the word Betdaq superimposed on it. The ad [...]
