US gaming supplier IGT has announced the launch of its multi-jurisdictional wide area progressive jackpot game MegaHits in the US state of Maryland.

Maryland becomes the fifth state to be approved by the video lottery game division of the Multi-State Lottery Association. This allows the jackpot game to be connected to other US states including Delaware, Ohio, Rhode Island and West Virginia.

Wide area progressives refer to slot machines that are located in two or more casinos that have been linked together to generate high jackpots that increase as customers play them.

Participating properties in Maryland include Casino at Ocean Downs in Berlin, Hollywood Casino in Perryville and Maryland Live! Casino in Hanover.

“With the addition of MegaHits to Maryland, we're thrilled to expand IGT's legacy of creating more jackpot winners, more often,” said IGT’s vice president of Eastern Region Sales Tim Shortall. “The excitement building around Maryland casinos makes this the ideal time for IGT to elevate casino floor appeal with MegaHits and continue our leadership by creating a larger jackpot potential and offering the only Wide Area Progressive available in those five states.”

IGT said that its agreement with the Multi-State Lottery Association to facilitate the wide area progressive between jurisdictions gives players a chance of winning life-changing jackpots.

Jackpots range from $100,000 to seven figure sums, with MegaHits available as a penny or dollar denomination game. Themes on the link include IGT's popular Emerald Seven, Triple Ruby Riches, Reel Gold and Wild Sapphires and feature a local, four-level progressive plus the wide area progressive jackpot.

Fans of the IGT Megabucks line-up of games can enjoy the same gameplay with the MegaHits wide area progressive, including Purple Passion and Pink Ice.
