With its current five-year licence in Tasmania set to expire next year, Betfair Australia has signed an in-principle agreement with the Tasmanian government to keep its operations in the country for a further ten years, subject to various conditions including legislation being passed by the new parliament to reduce the tax on betting exchanges to 5% of gross revenue, instead of a tax based on turnover.
