WA Gaming and Wagering Commission names new Chair

27th March 2024 9:39 am GMT

The Government of Western Australia has appointed Gary Dreibergs to a three-year term as chair of the Gaming and Wagering Commission.

Dreibergs is a former deputy commissioner of the Western Australia Police and has served the state for forty years.

He is currently employed as head of strategic partners at community safety software developer Genvis and also serves on the board of directors of VenuesWest, the WA Institute of Sport, and the WA Police & Community Youth Centres.

Dreibergs replaces former Commission chair Dr Michael Schaper, who stepped down in February.

The WA Government has also extended the term of independent monitor Paul Steel, who was brought in to oversee and monitor Crown Casino’s implementation of the management and operational changes required following the Perth Casino Royal Commission. He will now serve in the role until 30 April 2025.

The extension of Steel’s appointment follows the decision to give Crown Casino an extra four months, until 31 January 2025, to complete its remediation plan, which will then be assessed and approved by Steel.
