Germany’s Lotto Bayern is upgrading its systems technology through a new four-year contract with New York-listed supplier Scientific Games.

The Bavarian state lottery will upgrade its existing central gaming system to Scientific Games’ new Symphony technology over the next year, enabling it to support new channels and easily integrate third-party solutions through the platform’s secure, open interfaces.

The new technology contract covers an initial four-year term with the option to extend by up to five additional years.

“For more than 25 years, Lotto Bayern has trusted Scientific Games to provide best-in-class lottery products and solutions to serve its retailers and entertain players,” said Pat McHugh, group chief executive, Lottery for Scientific Games. “Our new Symphony open-architecture gaming system advances Lotto Bayern's operations and helps drive maximum profits for beneficiaries.”

Lotto Bayern is the second largest state lottery in Germany and will become one of the first lotteries in the world to install the new self-contained Symphony system, alongside Lotto Baden-Württemberg, which agreed a deal with Scientific Games in January.

“It's important for Scientific Games to provide our lottery customers with market-driven, cloud-ready and ultra-reliable systems, like Symphony,” said Matthias Müller, vice-president of sales and marketing for international lottery accounts at SG. “Symphony accelerates time-to-market for new products and services while integrating new solutions to implement new games, providing Lotto Bayern players with the latest state-of-the-art technology.”

Scientific Games also supplies Lotto Bayern with retail technology, instant games, sports betting and online services.

Shares in Scientific Games Corporation (NSQ:SGMS) closed up 9.11 per cent at $9.70 per share in New York Tuesday.
