Paddy Power is set to close nearly one in 10 shops across the United Kingdom and Ireland, amid challenging market conditions.
This decision to close 57 shops, with 29 in the UK —including one in Northern Ireland — and 28 in Ireland, follows a review of the high street estate by parent company Flutter Entertainment.
Almost 250 staff members are at risk of redundancy as a result of the closures, with those affected being offered redeployment opportunities where possible.
A Flutter UK & Ireland spokesperson said: “In light of increasing cost pressures and challenging market conditions, we can confirm that we will be closing 28 shops across Ireland within the next month.
“We are continually reviewing our high street estate, but it remains a key part of our offer to customers, and we are seeking to innovate and invest where we can as we adapt to different customer trends and needs.”
Shares in Paddy Power parent Flutter Entertainment plc. (NYSE:FLUT) closed marginally lower at $249.85 per share in New York Thursday.
