IGT puts convergence into practice with multi-platform poker tournament

International Game Technology’s social gaming division DoubleDown Casino has teamed up with Arizona’s Casino Del Sol Resort to launch the first ever cross-platform video poker tournament next month.

Players will be able to participate in the video poker tournament across multiple platforms including mobile, desktop and in person at Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona.

The Game King Championship Tournament has been launched by DoubleDown, the exclusive online provider of IGT’s Game King video poker machine, in partnership with the land-based casino.

IGT Interactive’s executive vice president Robert Melendres said: “The Game King Video Poker Championship done in partnership with Casino Del Sol is a perfect example of how the convergence of mobile and social gaming impacts the casino gaming industry.”

Casino Del Sol was one of the first US land-based casinos to feature DoubleDown Casino’s app on its casino-branded websites following a deal signed last July. IGT has now partnered with over forty casinos who are integrating the app into their plans to reach audiences online, looking to grow through mobile and social platforms.

Brian Hoeffner, vice president of gaming for Casino Del Sol Resort said that the integration of DoubleDown Casino had enabled the casino to be on the forefront of the casino gaming industry.

“We are excited about our partnership with IGT and our position as a key player in the largest mobile and social poker tournament ever,” he said.  

More than 111,000 players have already qualified to play for the tournament, which takes place on August 24th and 25th. IGT claims that already this would be the largest mobile and social poker tournament ever held.

Players can qualify for the tournament until Monday July 29th through DoubleDown Casino via Facebook, iOS and Android app or via Casino Del Sol’s website. There is no cost to participate.

After the qualifying period, five lucky winners will receive airfare, transportation, two nights at Casino Del Sol resort as well as a $200 resort credit.

IGT Interactive’s vice president of global marketing John Clelland said: “More than 1.5 million people have played Game King Video Poker at DoubleDown Casino since its launch in April, making it our fastest growing table game.

“The Game King Championship Tournament spans several platforms which will result in the largest group of poker players ever competing against each other.”

Shares in International Game Technology Inc (Co. Data) (NYSE:IGT) will commence trading at $18.30 per share in New York later today.
