France’s online gaming market generated stakes of €2.76bn (US$3.59bn) in the first quarter of 2012, a 1.1 per cent improvement versus the first quarter of 2011, with increased spend on sports and horse race betting and tournament poker offsetting a decline in cash poker.

According to the latest figures from regulatory authority ARJEL, there were 1.3m active online gaming accounts in France in Q1 2012, a figure that remains unchanged from the same period a year ago, with a 3 per cent fall in the number of sports betting accounts and poker accounts being offset by a 9 per cent  increase in horse racing accounts.
