Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Andros Townsend has become the first Premiership footballer to be sanctioned for breaching betting regulations after he was banned from all football activity for four months by the Football Association.
Townsend was charged last month in relation to alleged breaches of the FA’s rules governing misconduct and betting. Following the charges, he withdrew from the England Under-21 squad for the European Championship finals set to take place this summer.
