International Game Technology (IGT) has ended its claim for damages in relation to the Fourth National Lottery licence in the United Kingdom.

The Gambling Commission named Allwyn as the preferred applicant for the licence in March 2022, prompting legal challenges by incumbent operator Camelot, rival bidder Northern & Shell, and lottery technology supplier IGT.

Camelot withdrew its legal challenge in September 2022 and in July 2023, the High Court ruled that IGT did not have legal standing to pursue to a claim for damages, leading to an appeal.

At the request of IGT, this appeal was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on Tuesday (9 January), with IGT stating that they will no longer pursue a claim against the Gambling Commission.

Commenting on the dismissal, the Gambling Commission said: “We remain resolute that we have run a fair and robust competition, and that our evaluation has been carried out fairly and lawfully in accordance with our statutory duties.

“Our priority is to continue to work to implement our decision for the benefit of participants and good causes.”

The UK National Lottery will be operated by Allwyn under the Fourth National Lottery licence from 1 February.

Shares in International Game Technology Plc. (NYSE:IGT) closed 0.74 per cent higher at $25.80 per share in New York Wednesday.
