Gambling operators without a local license will be removed from the app store under new rules

Apple’s Brazilian App Store has announced a new policy update to align the store with the country’s new gambling regulatory framework.

The new policy states that only gaming operators holding a fixed-odds wagering license from Brazil’s gaming regulator, the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), will be allowed to offer gambling platforms on the App Store.

Operators wanting to register their apps on the App Store must also verify their platforms in the App Review Information section of Apple’s management platform, App Store Connect. This entails operators selecting “Yes” to the platform’s gambling question in its age rating questionnaire.

Operators must then provide their license information and include any supporting documentation in the Connect portal.

Operators who have opted to disclose that their apps contain fixed-odds wagering will also have their ratings change to 18+ to match Brazil’s age rating requirements.

The update comes amid growing scrutiny of Brazil’s regulated betting sector. Last month, Brazilian lawmakers introduced Bill PL-1808/2026 to the Chamber of Deputies, with the aim of banning fixed-odds wagering.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has also become an outspoken critic of online gambling, saying he would prefer an outright ban on the sector, which was only regulated in January 2025.
