New York-listed social gaming operator SciPlay has strengthened its board with the appointment of former Buffalo Studios CEO Michael Marchetti as a director.

Marchetti joins the board of the newly listed Scientific Games spin-off with immediate effect and will also serve as a member of the Audit Committee.

He currently serves as chief financial officer of California-based education technology innovator Age of Learning, which creates engaging and effective learning resources to help children build a strong foundation for academic success.

He is a former founding executive and CFO of JAMDAT Mobile, one of the first publicly traded mobile gaming companies in the US that was later acquired by Electronic Arts. Marchetti then served as senior vice president and chief operating officer of EA's Interactive division.

He then joined as chief executive of Buffalo Studios, creator of the Bingo Blitz social game, which was sold to Caesars Interactive.

“We're excited about our board's decision to appoint Marchetti as SciPlay's newest director,” said SciPlay CEO Josh Wilson. “He is an experienced technology and social gaming pro, with extensive financial and leadership skills.

“Serving on our Audit Committee, Marchetti will be instrumental to SciPlay's continued growth as we work towards our goal of becoming the #1 casual mobile gaming company in the world.”

Shares in SciPlay Corporation (NSQ:SCPL) closed up 4.03 per cent at $10.85 per share Thursday after the company reported strong trading figures for the second quarter.
