Svenska Spel names Anna Johnson as new president and CEO

Swedish gaming and lottery operator Svenska Spel has named Anna Johnson as the company’s new president and chief executive officer.

Johnson currently serves as a partner at Grant Thornton in Sweden, where she has served as CEO for the past seven years, having been with the accounting and advisory firm since 1998.

She will take on her new role no later than June 2024 and succeeds Patrik Hofbauer, who is stepping down at the end of January to join Swedish telecommunications giant Telia.

Svenska Spel chairman Erik Strand will take over as interim CEO until Johnson takes office.

“Anna Johnson has a successful leadership based on inclusion and building strong teams that create customer value which has resulted in profitable growth over the years,” said Strand. “Her drive and curiosity are excellent qualities for the task of leading Svenska Spel.

“We have implemented significant changes in recent years and are today well equipped to offer sustainable gaming experiences that contribute to a better Sweden. The board and I are very much looking forward to working together with Anna and her management team.”

Commenting on her appointment, Johnson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity and I am both grateful and humbled by the trust.
