Total wagering on US horseracing decreased by 11 per cent to $779.9 million in January, according to data published by Equibase.
January had 48 fewer race days at 217, a fall of 18 per cent on the previous year. Bad weather was the main reason for the lower number of race days and 11 of the 19 race tracks that raced during the month had at least one weather-related cancellation.
