Sales of China’s state lotteries surged by 73 per cent to RMB57.56 billion (€7.38 billion) in January, the third month in a row with sales above RMB50 billion.
The timing of the Spring Festival does influence China’s lottery sales at this time of year because the lotteries close for the holiday.
In 2023, China’s lotteries were closed between 19 and 28 January but in 2024 the holiday fell entirely in February.
