Sports betting operator William Hill US will enter Florida for the first time with the opening of a new race book in partnership with Casino Miami.
Pending regulatory approval, the race book is scheduled to open next month and will offer pari-mutuel simulcast wagering to the casino’s customers.
Marking William Hill’s first operations in Florida in its 85 year history, the partnership also positions the operator for entry into Florida’s future sports betting market. Last week Florida Senator Jeff Brandes filed three bills which could see sports betting legalised and regulated in the state before the end of this year.
“William Hill has unparalleled expertise and a rich history in racing,” said Casino Miami owner Phillip Ruffin. “The company has led the industry for decades and together we will bring state-of-the-art technology and innovation to Casino Miami.
“This new race book will provide us with an incredible amenity for guests and will place us at the forefront of the forthcoming Florida sports betting business.”
Casino Miami customers will be able to watch and wager on major thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound tracks, as well as Jai Alai from around the country, at the race book’s ten 50-inch TV screens and 30ft video wall.
“Casino Miami is a great location with a modern space where we have created a first-class experience for all racing fans in the area,” said William Hill US CEO Joe Asher. “We look forward to working with Phil Ruffin and his team to enable our customers to bet on races from across the country.”
Shares in William Hill plc (LSE:WMH) were trading marginally down by 0.51 per cent at 184.75 pence per share in London Tuesday.
