Genius Sports names new LatAm head of sports integrity

8th February 2024 6:38 am GMT

Genius Sports has brought in former Interpol criminal police officer Tiago Horta Barbosa as head of integrity for Latin America.

Barbosa brings over 20 years of experience in law enforcement, sports regulation and technology to the position, and will play a critical role in driving Genius Sports’ integrity partnerships in Brazil and Latin America.

He has previously served as criminal police officer at Interpol and prosecutor at the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) for football. He is an active member of the Integrity Committees of the Paulista Football Federation (FPF), International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and the Fair Play Defense Committee of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB).

Barbosa will also support Genius Sports’ position as a founding member of ABRADIE, helping to bring together key stakeholders to ensure Brazilian sports are fair, transparent and unpredictable.

“I am thrilled with Tiago’s appointment to this vital role, providing critical experience, expertise and relationships”, said Simon Martyn, director of Integrity and rights enforcement at Genius Sports. “Following the recent regulation of sports betting, Brazilian sports are at a critical juncture where integrity must be prioritised to safeguard the long-term prosperity of the market.

“We’re excited that Tiago will lead our integrity strategy in Brazil and Latin America, working with sports, sportsbooks, law enforcement and more across the region.”

Commenting on his new role, Horta said: “It is a privilege to join Genius Sports in the development of its integrity strategy. For over a decade, Genius Sports has worked with hundreds of leagues and federations to protect their competitions against match manipulation and I look forward to helping build a clean and safe sporting environment across Latin America.”

In Brazil, Genius Sports is the integrity partner to the National Basketball League, the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation and Liga Nacional de Futsal.

Shares in Genius Sports Ltd (NYSE:GENI) closed 1.10 per cent higher at $7.38 per share in New York Wednesday.
