Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has revealed that over $656 million has been wagered since the sports betting market opened in the Commonwealth.
More than $26.8 million has been wagered at the state’s nine operational in-person retail sportsbooks, which went live on Thursday 7 September.
Wagering via mobile devices went live three weeks later on Thursday 28 September, with more than $629.5 million wagered through mobile devices across seven live operators.
According to the Governor, an average of $65.2 million is being wagered each week.
Initial numbers indicate that the Commonwealth brought in nearly $8 million in tax dollars for the first two months of sports wagering.
“Folks, this is an incredible start, and if this trend holds true, we will significantly exceed the $23 million in projected revenue from sports wagering,” said Governor Beshear.
Detailed monthly reports will be released by Kentucky’s Horse Racing Commission later this week.
