London-listed betting and gaming operator William Hill has confirmed that Adrian Marsh will not be joining the company to take up his new role as chief financial officer.

William Hill had named Marsh as the company’s next CFO last month to replace Ruth Prior, who had announced her resignation at the start of the year.

As a result of the current unprecedented circumstances however, Marsh has now informed the operator that he intends to remain in his current position as group finance director of international packaging business DS Smith, where he has served for the past seven years.

Prior, who is currently serving out her notice period, will continue as CFO while William Hill begins the search for a new replacement.

“Whilst we note the reasons for Adrian's decision, William Hill is focussed on taking the necessary steps required in these unprecedented times to protect the interests of its stakeholders,” said William Hill chairman Roger Devlin. “We will provide an update in due course.”

Shares in William Hill plc (LSE:WMH) were trading down 2.15 per cent at 68.98 pence per share in London Thursday morning.
