Online gaming operator Betway has announced British flat racing Champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa as a brand ambassador for the 2016 season.

The Brazilian-born 35-year-old jockey rode 132 winners last season, including the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York on 50/1 rank outsider Arabian Queen. In 2011, he was runner-up with 161 winners.

The deal means that Betway’s stable of ambassadors now boasts the champion rider from both codes of the sport – with Richard Johnson set to be crowned UK champion jump jockey at Sandown on 23rd April, as well as two-time Irish champion jump jockey Davy Russell.

De Sousa will provide a weekly blog on Betway Insider, giving exclusive thoughts on his rides along with other high profile horses and races, as well as daily blogs during major meetings such as Chester, York, Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood. His first blog will appear on Friday 1st April ahead of the Betway Lincoln at Doncaster.

“Silvestre de Sousa is a world class jockey and we’re thrilled that he has agreed to provide Betway customers with exclusive comment on his rides,” said Betway’s head of PR Alan Alger. “To have the reigning champion Flat jockey and champion jump jockey-elect in our stable of ambassadors is fantastic and means we offer unrivalled racing content from the very best in the business.”

de Sousa added: “I’m really pleased to have signed with Betway ahead of what will hopefully be another successful season. Right from the start, I’m putting everything into successfully defending my title.

“As well as being a jockey, I’m a huge horseracing fan and I hope Betway’s customers will enjoy reading my blog on my own rides, as well as my thoughts on other horses and big races.”
