French online gaming regulator L’Autorité de regulation des jeux en ligne (ARJEL) has expanded the range of sports and bet types operators are allowed to offer following a request by Betclic Everest Group.

The regulator will now allow operators to significantly expand the leagues on which it can offer odds on a number of sports. Licensed companies can now offer bets on a range of ice hockey competitions, including the Slovakian Extraliga, Czech, Finnish, Norwegian and Austrian Championships.

Player will also be able to bet on the semi-finals of Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League and the quarter-finals of the Swedish Ice Hockey Championship, while bets on the first team to score a number of goals have also been approved.

ARJEL has also approved betting on baseball and will also allow customers to bet on the point spread between two teams, though a request to offer odds on first scorers and next scorer during matches was denied.

The number of tennis competitions on which players can bet has also been enhanced, with ARJEL approving betting on the ATP Masters 1000, WTA Premier and Grand Slam tournaments from the quarter-final stage. Like baseball, point spread bets have been approved, while customers will also be allowed to bet on the difference in the number of sets won by each player.

The regulator has also approved betting on golf, water polo, and volleyball, allowing betting on final scores.

However a number of requests made by the operator were denied. Betclic Everest had requested to offer odds on a number of football tournaments from the quarter-final stage, but ARJEL turned down the request to allow betting on the Copa Libertadores , Copa Sudamericana, the Asian Champions League, and Brazil and Argentina’s cup competition.

It also denied a request submitted by France Pari to allow betting on England’s League One and the Under-20 World Cup.

Betclic Everest also attempted to have betting on penalty scorers in rugby union approved, but this was also refused by ARJEL, while the regulator also decided that betting on American football and handball was not of sufficient interest to French customers.
