The European Court of Justice has confirmed in its final ruling today that fixture lists are not protected by copyright, ending the practice of charging bookmakers for their use of the data.
Today’s ruling confirms the Opinion issued by ECJ Advocate General Paolo Mengozzi in December, who said that “the very idea of using copyright to protect football fixture lists seems peculiar, to say the least”.
