Italy wields tax stick to deter players from dot.com sites

The figures may have been exaggerated but it appears certain that an Italian poker player whose winnings were generated from transactions on an overseas gaming site has been hit with a hefty tax bill by the country’s tax authorities, the first person to be caught out by a new law that set a tax of 20 per cent on winnings from unlicensed sites.
