French online gambling regulator L’autorité de regulation des jeux en ligne (ARJEL) has published results for the fourth quarter of 2013, revealing strong growth in sports betting over the course of the year, while horse race betting declined for the first time since the market opened in 2010.

The figures show that total amounts wagered in 2013 fell 10 per cent year-on-year to €8.5bn, with gross gaming revenue down 1.7 per cent as a result of the decline in horse racing and poker's continuing poor performance. In Q4, total amounts wagered fell 11 per cent year-on-year, though gross gaming revenues rose 3 per cent.
